Suffixes:

Suffixes are groups of letters added to the end of a word to modify its meaning and grammatical category.

Example:

If I add -y to a word it means "Full of"

-Y: 

Cloud/ Cloudy (Full of clouds)

Health/ Healthy (Full of health)

Luck/ Lucky (Full of luck)

Noise/ Noisy (Full of noise)


When I add -ful to a word it means "Full of"

-Ful:

Use/ Useful (Full of use)

Pain/ Painful (Full of pain)

Help/ Helpful (Full of pain)

Power/ powerful (Full of power)

When I add -less to a word it means "Without"

-Less:

End/ Endless (Without end)

Home/ Homeless (Without home)

Hope/ Hopeless (Without hope)




Prefixes:

Are added to the beginning of a base word.

Example:

impossible

opposite

able

unable

opposite/negation

payment

non-payment

negation

war

pre-war

time (before)

terrestrial

extraterrestrial

place (outside of/beyond)

cook

overcook

manner (too much)
